In Summary:
1) A faction claiming to be the founding members of UDA has removed Cleophas Malala from his role as secretary general.
2) The group has named lawyer Joe Khalende as the interim secretary general.
A faction within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has announced significant changes in the party’s leadership.
Claiming to be the bona fide founding members of the ruling party, this group has ousted Cleophas Malala from his position as secretary general.
During a press conference on Tuesday, July 30, the faction accused Malala of sabotaging the government’s agenda.
They criticized him for opposing President Ruto’s plan to form a government of national unity that would include members of the opposition.
Malala was also faulted for aligning with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and other Western Kenya leaders in dissenting from Ruto’s inclusive approach.
Speaking at the party headquarters on Ngong Road, lawyer Joe Khalende introduced himself as the new interim secretary general.
“We are here to confirm that Malala has abdicated his role and duty as the secretary general of the ruling party. He has been leading the opposition against the formation of a broad-based government, and I am here to confirm that he is no longer the secretary general of the UDA party. I, Joe Khalende, will be taking over,” stated Khalende.
