Feb 12 (TopNews) – A devastating incident unfolded in Kansas City when Mariah Thomas, a 25-year-old mother, mistakenly placed her 1-month-old baby in an oven instead of the crib.

Responding to a call near 41st Street and Forest Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on a Friday, authorities found the infant unresponsive and tragically declared the baby dead at the scene.


The suspicious circumstances surrounding the baby’s death prompted a thorough investigation by detectives. On Saturday, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office revealed charges against Thomas, including the Class A felony of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree, Death of a Child.

First responders noted severe burns on the baby, who was found unresponsive and not breathing. Thomas reportedly explained that she had intended to put the baby down for a nap but made a tragic mistake.

Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker expressed the gravity of the situation, acknowledging the tragic loss of the infant’s life and the serious charges filed against the mother.
