The Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki, has cautioned police officers against using excessive force while confronting peaceful protestors.
He makes it clear that since Raila and his group are Kenyans, they should be given respect and escorted home when they demonstrate.
According to CS Kindiki, some police officers are embarrassing the government by acting recklessly and using tear gas for no discernible cause.
According to Kindiki, officers who will be found attacking opposition politicians without a good reason would be fired and disciplined.
CS Kindiki wants all Kenyan police officers to be professional and recognize that the rule of law is supreme. He is emphatic that power belongs to the people, which is why they should be permitted to picket and demonstrate if that is their intention.
CS Kindiki, on the other hand, has advised Azimio leaders against carrying crude weapons in order to arm others.
Kindiki has made it plain that political leaders, whether in higher positions than him or not, should stop providing orders to the police, because Kenya is a democracy in which everyone is free to express themselves.
