One of the influential figures who played a pivotal role in President William Ruto’s election campaigns has now shifted his stance, accusing Ruto of failing to uphold the majority of his commitments to the Kenyan people.
Bishop Samuel Ngacha Njiriri of the Stewards Revival Pentecostal Church, formerly a prominent supporter among the evangelical community during Ruto’s successful presidential bid, now expresses disappointment, highlighting Ruto’s failure to fulfill his pledges.
“As church leaders, we find ourselves in a difficult position before our congregations whom we encouraged to vote for Ruto, as his actions are diametrically opposed to his promises,” Njiriri states.
He urges the Head of State to confront the reality and admit that some of the promises made were unattainable. “It is time to acknowledge the truth. Come forward and inform Kenyans that some promises are no longer feasible, and let’s prioritize… Persisting with unachievable promises will burden everyone, including yourself,” Njiriri emphasized.
Njiriri advises President Ruto to heed the concerns of the Kenyan populace and reconsider the current taxation policies, which he believes have exacerbated the challenges faced by citizens.
While acknowledging the government’s need for revenue, the bishop argues that excessively taxing Kenyans is unreasonable and counterproductive to national welfare.
