A recent study backs up what you’ve always wanted to be true.
While it’s true that early birds get the worm, night owls also benefit greatly from their unique personality. It’s time to give them some recognition.
Please don’t get us wrong: We are definitely sleep advocates.
And in order to be healthy, it’s crucial that you make sure you receive the recommended amount of sleep each day, which is seven to nine hours for the average adult.
This is not a permission to stay up late and get little sleep. Yet if your way of life permits a later wake time, you could also feel motivated to remain up a little later.
According to the research, those who don’t follow “normal” sleeping patterns are regarded as intelligent. Research has also shown that people that invent new evolutionary patterns are the most progressive, which supports the conclusions.
That makes sense because the most intelligent and progressive members of societies are those who live differently.
The results of another investigation confirmed this. The University of Madrid examined the sleeping habits of 1,000 students and discovered that those who went to bed and woke up later performed better on tests of inductive reasoning, which are linked with general intelligence.
A creative breakthrough causes night owls to remain up late.
At least that is what researchers from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan discovered when they asked 120 men and women of all ages whether they preferred the morning or the night.
Later, participants completed three tasks that evaluated creative thinking and were graded on originality, elaboration, fluency, and adaptability by researchers. All of the exams were perfect for the night people. Above 50% was difficult for the morning individuals to achieve.
Lead author of the study Marina Giampietro expressed her opinion that the increased creativity could be related to “development of a non-conventional spirit and of the ability to identify alternative and creative solutions.“
There are only 24 hours in a day.
However, this study found that while early risers are more productive, late risers are more creative.
