Ngilu, who previously served as governor in 2017 after defeating the incumbent Julius Malombe, has expressed her determination to serve the people of Kitui better this time around.
During the 2022 general elections, Ngilu chose not to defend her seat, aligning herself with Azimio chief Raila Odinga’s presidential bid. However, with Raila’s loss to President William Ruto, Ngilu’s hopes for state appointments were dashed.
Recently, Ngilu has been making public appearances, declaring her return to politics.
At various events last weekend, she confidently stated her intentions to once again lead the county and improve the lives of Kitui residents.
During a fundraising event at the Kitui Town ACK church, Ngilu humorously promised to offer a job to Stephen Kimwele, the Agriculture and Livestock CEC, praising his hard work and commitment.

She emphasized the need for Malombe to focus on serving the people, as he would not have another chance beyond 2027, as stipulated by the constitution.
Meanwhile, incumbent Kitui governor, Julius Malombe, has raised questions about the interpretation of term limits for governors.
Malombe, who took over from Ngilu after the 2022 election, argues that governors should hold office for two uninterrupted terms to fulfill constitutional requirements.
However, Ngilu disagrees, asserting that there is no ambiguity in the constitution regarding term limits for governors.
She emphasized the importance of Malombe’s dedication to serving the people of Kitui as his tenure comes to an end in 2027.
