A prominent ODM MP has drawn attention after making unexpected statements regarding President Ruto’s constitutional change proposals.
According to various media sources, President Ruto has given his Kenya Kwanza Alliance MPs instructions to amend the Constitution to establish the Office of the Official Leader of Opposition.
The Office will have a lot of authority, including the ability to nominate people for positions on Constitutional statutory commissions and deliver an annual address to the National Assembly.
Additionally, the Exchequer will provide financing to the Office so that it can fulfill its mandate. The Homabay Town MP Hon. Peter Kaluma has now vowed to reject any constitutional amendment initiative.
Opiyo Wandayi, the minority leader in the National Assembly, asserted that if a bill is not intended to benefit Kenyans, it is impossible to have bipartisan support for it on the House floor.
