Kenyans will need to spend more money on fuel now that the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced an increase of petrol price by Sh2 .
However, the price of diesel and kerosene won’t change over the course of the following month.
According to EPRA, the new prices include an 8% value-added tax.
The EPRA announcement follows four months of unchanged pump prices for the petrol ,diesel and kerosene.
“The price of diesel has been cross-subsidized with that of super petrol while a subsidy of Sh23.49 per litre has been maintained on kerosene in order to cushion the consumer from the otherwise high prices,” EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo stated.
Kiptoo reports a decrease in the average landed cost of petrol, diesel, and kerosene, but a 2.56% decline in the value of the shilling compared to the dollar.
In Nairobi , a litre of petrol ,diesel and kerosene will retail at kes179.30, kes162 and kes145.94 respectively.
In Mombasa , a litre of petrol ,diesel and kerosene in the next month will cost kes176.98, kes159.76 kes143.69 respectively.
In Kisumu, a litre of petrol will continue to retail at kes179.50, diesel kes162.70 and kerosene kes146.66.
In Eldoret, a litre of petrol will continue to cost kes179.50, diesel kes162.72 and kerosene kes146.67.
In Nakuru, the price of a litre of petrol remains at kes178.62, diesel kes161.83, and kerosene kes145.79.
