The resignation letter purportedly stated that Malala had stepped down after reflecting on recent troubling developments.
On Tuesday, a faction of UDA members stormed the party headquarters, asserting Malala’s removal as Secretary General.
The group, led by Advocate Joe Khalende, claimed to have ousted Malala.
They accused Malala of opposing President William Ruto’s efforts to form a broad-based government.
Khalende declared he would be taking over as Secretary General to return the party to its members.
“He opposes the formation of a broad-based government, and I am here to confirm that he is no longer the Secretary General of the UDA party. I, Joe Khalende, will be taking over as Secretary General of the UDA party,” he announced.
“Going forward, the UDA party is returning to its members. It was established as a people-centered party, not centered on individuals within the party.”
