Chief Justice Martha Koome announced on Thursday the closure of the Makadara Law Courts until Monday, June 17, due to a recent shooting incident within the premises.
In her statement, CJ Koome emphasized that the closure is necessary to enhance security measures.
During this period, all court matters will be conducted virtually, and any cases requiring physical appearances will be redirected to the Milimani Law Courts.
Moreover, CJ Koome has decreed that only accredited security personnel are permitted to carry firearms on court premises.
“The Judiciary Police Unit, in collaboration with the Office of the Inspector General, will bolster security at all court stations nationwide. This measure ensures that no one, except properly accredited security officers, can access court premises while armed,” stated Koome.
Additionally, Koome has directed that the Judiciary, in partnership with the Office of the Inspector General and the National Council of Administration of Justice, will review and enhance the security protocols concerning the handling of accused individuals in courtrooms.
