A Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker burst into flames near the Fedha Estate matatu stage in Embakasi South Constituency, Nairobi County.

The incident, which occurred around midday on Monday, June 3, was captured in photos and video clips obtained by Topnews.co.ke, showing thick smoke engulfing the lorry.

Reports indicated that the driver of the tanker disappeared after alerting nearby people of a gas leak and advising them to vacate the area.

The number of casualties remains undetermined, but it is believed that a matatu driver succumbed after failing to escape in time.

Police and firefighters had not yet arrived at the scene.

Following the blast, residents and businesspeople gathered around the area, and motorists and locals were advised to evacuate for their safety.

The cause of the explosion and the extent of the damage are still unknown.

This explosion occurs just days after victims of another blast in Embakasi East, which claimed 12 lives, sued several government agencies.

The February explosion left many injured and displaced households to social halls after their homes were affected.

The National Environment Management Authority, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and the County Government of Nairobi are among the agencies being sued.

Additionally, the Attorney General, Cabinet Secretaries for Environment and Energy, and the owner of the gas tanker were mentioned as interested parties.

The petitioners allege that the respondents issued operating licenses and approvals to the tanker and failed to take necessary actions post-incident.
