Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin, Captain (Rtd) Kung’u Muigai, has expressed his preparedness to facilitate reconciliation efforts between Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking to the media, Kung’u stressed the importance of overcoming political differences for the progress and stability of the Mt Kenya region.
Kung’u emphasized the necessity for both Uhuru and Gachagua to unite and collaborate for the growth and unity of the region.
“As elders in the Mt Kenya region, we welcome the move for the two leaders to unite, and we are prepared to facilitate any meeting, whether it is a handshake or a sit-down, for the sake of the region’s growth,” Kung’u stated.
Political analyst Albert Kasembeli echoed Kung’u’s sentiments, emphasizing the risks of continued division within the region.
Kasembeli highlighted the importance of reconciliation between Uhuru and Gachagua to avoid exploitation by self-serving leaders.
“I fully support Gachagua’s move to unite with Uhuru because if they fail to unite, the region will remain divided, and the community will risk being misused by selfish leaders in the region,” Kasembeli remarked.
During a recent event, Deputy President Gachagua expressed his readiness to mend fences with President Uhuru Kenyatta, underlining their longstanding friendship and the significance of unity for regional development.
“I was looking forward to meeting my friend and former boss President Uhuru Kenyatta. I wanted to come and greet him because I have not seen him for a while, tell him it is well and we have a new government,” stated DP. Gachagua.
Thuo Mathenge, the New Democrat’s national chairman, emphasized the need for collective action and unity across political divides in the Mt Kenya region.
“I support the unity of the region, and we should speak in one voice irrespective of political formations,” Thuo affirmed.
The calls for unity from Kung’u Muigai, Albert Kasembeli, and Thuo Mathenge highlight the growing momentum towards reconciliation and unity talks within the Mt Kenya region, signaling a potential shift towards collaborative politics for regional growth and stability.
