Kenya Met Issues Rainfall Advisory for Several Regions, Including Nairobi and Mombasa

The Kenya Meteorological Department issued an advisory on Wednesday, alerting Kenyans to anticipate moderate to heavy rainfall in several regions across the country.

The advisory highlighted that regions such as the Highlands East, which includes Nairobi County, and the Coastal Strip are expected to receive significant rainfall.

Additionally, areas west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are also forecasted to experience rainfall.

Counties within these regions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi.

Rain is also expected in Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, and Homabay counties.

Other counties predicted to experience downpours are Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and West-Pokot.

“Moderate rainfall is likely in several places along the Coastal Strip, offshore in the morning,” the advisory stated. It further added, “Occasional rain is also likely in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley.”

In contrast, the rest of the country is expected to remain dry with sunny intervals throughout the day.

Counties forecasted to stay dry include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, and Samburu.

“Sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy,” the department stated.

The weather department also mentioned that intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and the South-eastern lowlands.

Additionally, “Strong southerly to south-easterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s), are expected in some parts of the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” Kenya Met noted.
