Muslims around the world will observe Eid al-Adha on Monday, June 17, 2024, marking a significant occasion in the Islamic calendar.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Azimio chief Raila Odinga have extended their heartfelt wishes to the Muslim community ahead of this important holiday.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) unwavering devotion to Allah and his readiness to sacrifice his son, Ismail.
In his message, Kalonzo highlighted the importance of reflection and generosity during this time.
“I extend my warmest greetings to our Muslim brothers and sisters as they celebrate Eid al-Adha,” Kalonzo said.
“This is a time for reflection, sacrifice, and unity, honoring the faith and dedication of Prophet Ibrahim. Let us continue to build bridges of understanding, friendship, and respect, celebrating the common values we share.”
Raila Odinga also shared his best wishes, praying for blessings and prosperity for the Muslim faithful during the celebration.
“I wish a wonderful Eid to all our Muslim brothers and sisters. May this joyous event bring you and your loved ones much happiness, serenity, and prosperity. Eid Mubarak to you all,” Raila expressed.
Eid al-Adha is the second of the two major Islamic holidays, following Eid al-Fitr. It honors Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, who ultimately provided a lamb to sacrifice instead.
The tradition involves slaughtering an animal and distributing the meat in three equal parts: for family, relatives and friends, and those in need, ensuring that every Muslim can partake in the feast.
As Muslims prepare to celebrate, Kalonzo and Raila’s messages underscore the themes of sacrifice, unity, and mutual respect that define Eid al-Adha.
