What you should know:

1) Mwelu Muinde, a house helper, is accused of stealing shillings 4 million from Treasury CAS Nelson Gaichuhe.

2) Munya’s personal assistant, Muloki Kofia, is reported to have lost Kes 1.3 million after leaving his bag containing the cash at home.

In Kenya, cases of people losing large sums of money stored at their homes have recently increased.

Nelson Ributhi Gaichuihe, Treasury Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), was the latest victim earlier this week.

Mwelu Muinde, 45, the housekeeper, is accused of stealing Sh4 million from the CAS.

Muinde is also said to have stolen jewelry worth 500,000 Kenyan shillings.

Gaichuihe’s wife reported the incident to Hardy Police Station in Karen.

“She left for work around 7 a.m. with her children, leaving behind her housemaid, a female aged 45 years in the house,” according to the police report.

The suspect was last seen in the Kajiado area, where a leading mobile communications company picked up her phone’s signal before turning it off around 10:00 a.m.

In another case, police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the loss of Kes 1.3 million by Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya’s personal assistant.

Muloki Kofia Kaulani, Munya’s personal assistant, reportedly left the bag containing the cash at home with his mother and sister to attend a meeting in Maua town last Thursday.

After the meeting at 8:00 p.m., he would return home and leave for Meru town a few minutes later after collecting the bag.

Before leaving for Meru town, Kaulani did not inspect the contents of the bag.

When he arrived in Meru town, he was greeted with a rude awakening: the cash was missing from the bag.

At this point, he went to Muthara Police Station in Tigania East, where police launched an investigation into the incident, which was booked under OB9/23/6/2022.
