On Thursday, September 15, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja appointed former Vice Chancellor of Kenyatta University Prof. Olive Mugenda to head a task committee that will strive to reform the health sector in Nairobi City County.
Jairus Musumba of Nairobi County was chosen to serve as the secretariat.
Sakaja named six people to the task force, including Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, the outgoing Health CAS, Drs. Anastacia Nyalita, Githinji Gitahi, Ms. Dorcas Kemunto, William Charles Fryda, and Karei Mwenda.
Some of task force’s roles include
1) Reviewing the citizens’ access to Quality Health Services,
2) Assessing the status of all Public Health Facilities,
3) Reviewing the Supply Chain Management of Pharma and Non-Pharma products and
4) Assessing the status of Health Information Management and proposing interventions towards a comprehensive Health Information Management System.
Reviewing the current human resource capacity, determining the gaps, and suggesting an effective health financing model are some of the other responsibilities.
