Nairobi, Feb 2 (TopNews) – In an unfortunate incident, an explosion at a gas filling station in Embakasi’s Mradi area has resulted in the loss of two lives and left more than 200 individuals injured. Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura stated that the victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital.

According to Mwaura, 21 of the injured are now at Kenyatta National Hospital, while Mama Lucy General Hospital is treating 160 others. Additionally, 19 individuals were admitted to Mbagathi Hospital, 14 to Modern Komarock Hospital, and 8 to Nairobi West Hospital.

Providing insight into the incident, Mwaura revealed, “One lorry of an unknown registration number that was loaded with gas exploded, igniting a huge ball of fire that spread widely. A flying gas cylinder hit Oriental Godown, burning down the said godown which deals with garments and textiles.”

The ensuing inferno extended its devastation to numerous vehicles, commercial properties, and residential houses, trapping several residents inside their homes.

The government expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and emphasized ongoing efforts to support victims and restore normalcy in the affected area.

A secured scene with a designated command center has been established to coordinate rescue operations and intervention measures.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid the cordoned area to minimize disruptions and facilitate the ongoing rescue mission.
