Gachagua Responds to Impeachment: ‘It is Well’
In Summary:
- Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua faced impeachment by 281 Members of the National Assembly.
- In response, he shared biblical verses on social media and acknowledged the decision, stating, “It is well.”
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua reacted on Tuesday night to his impeachment by a majority of the National Assembly, which saw 281 MPs vote in favor of the motion against him.
He took to social media, quoting 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus,” alongside a verse from Jeremiah 30:19 about songs of thanksgiving and the honor bestowed upon people.
Despite his ousting, Gachagua stated, “It is well,” accepting the decision made by parliament.
During the impeachment proceedings, he was allowed two hours to defend himself against 11 charges, which he argued were unjust.
He claimed his comments about the National Intelligence Security (NIS) boss, Noordin Haji, were in line with actions taken by President William Ruto when he was deputy president.
Following his impeachment, the motion will proceed to the Senate, where Senate Speaker Amason Kingi is set to convene a special session within a week for discussion.
An 11-member committee will then investigate the charges over ten days.
Depending on the findings, the Senate will either dismiss the motion or proceed to a final hearing and vote on the deputy president’s impeachment.

"From them will come songs of thanksgiving
and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained."
It is well.
