The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced on Monday the arrest of a police officer who is the primary suspect in a shooting incident outside a nightclub in Kiambu on Sunday morning.
Authorities reported that the officer used his firearm to shoot at individuals involved in a brawl outside the club.
CCTV footage from the incident revealed that the victim, a bystander, was struck by a bullet in the back, killing him instantly.
The officer, now in custody, brandished his weapon and fired, though the exact reason for his actions remains unclear. His firearm has been confiscated for ballistic analysis as the investigation continues.
The nightclub’s management stated that the altercation stemmed from an alleged love triangle inside the club, which escalated outside.
The victim has been identified as a 35-year-old engineer, leaving behind a son and an unborn child.
Family members, still in shock, have urged the government to expedite the investigation.
“I got a call from a friend at the club who told me my brother’s son had been shot. When I arrived, I found him lying down,” recounted the victim’s uncle.
