Fights between supporters of two politicians are said to have erupted in Kitui County, prompting the police to intervene.

After conflicts between supporters of two Kitui politicians allegedly broke out while they campaigned, police in Mwingi Central, Kitui County, went into action quickly this evening.

According to sources, a confrontation broke this evening between supporters of Mwingi Central MP Dr. Gideon Mulyungi of Wiper and supporters of Jubilee Party candidate Hon. Lydia Mutambu shortly after Lydia began her campaign.

This comes after IEBC cleared Jubilee candidate Hon Lydia Mutambu to run for the Mwingi Central Constituency seat.

The fights, which are said to have occurred along a busy road, have reportedly resulted in serious casualties.

Several bodabodas have been damaged, with the remains scattered over the road, according to photos provided by local media.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fights in the hopes of apprehending the perpetrators.

However, no loss of life has been reported so far.

Politicians have been instructed to conduct their campaigns peacefully while preaching unity among their supporters.
