Counties Affected By Drought To Receive Kes 1.1 Billion From Government

1). Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, and Turkana counties will receive Kes 1.1 billion from the government to help residents cope with the effects of the drought.

2).Payments to beneficiaries will begin on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

3).Group 1 beneficiaries are entitled to Ksh5,400.

To provide residents with a buffer against the effects of the drought, the government has given Kes. 1.1 billion to the counties of Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, and Turkana.

The Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP) funding has been distributed to low-income and vulnerable households in the affected counties by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA).

Additional 58,000 households in the four counties have received Kes. 638.6 million from the Authority as part of the portfolio for drought shock responsive cash transfers.

On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, beneficiaries will start getting their payments.

In addition, Ksh 500 million will be used to fund the regular cash transfer program, which will benefit over 91,000 beneficiaries.

According to Lt. Col. (Rtd) Hared Hassan Adan, chief executive officer of the NDMA, “the HSNP routine segment, also known as Group 1 beneficiaries, is entitled to Ksh5,400, while those covered by the shock responsive portfolio would receive Ksh2,700.
