- Lucy Letby’s attempt to overturn her conviction for murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six others was unsuccessful.
- Letby will face a retrial next month for one count of attempted murder.
British nurse Lucy Letby, who was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six others, has lost her bid to overturn the conviction.
Letby, 34, was convicted this year of killing five baby boys and two baby girls in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital in northern England..
During an April hearing, Letby presented four grounds for appeal, arguing that the trial judge had wrongly refused several applications she made during the trial.
However, in a brief session on Friday, the Court of Appeal rejected her appeal.
Judge Victoria Sharp announced the court’s decision, stating, “We have decided to refuse leave to appeal on all grounds.”
A full written ruling will be delivered at a later date, but no further details can be disclosed for legal reasons.
Letby is scheduled to face a retrial on one count of attempted murder at Manchester Crown Court next month.
