Safaricom has set an expiration date for its customer loyalty program, Bonga Points, which rewards subscribers with points for using its network.
According to an update to the loyalty program’s terms and conditions set to be announced later this month, Bonga Points older than three years (December 2019) will expire on January 1, 2023 and will be unavailable for redemption.
“This is a business decision aimed at encouraging Bonga redemption,” Safaricom PLC stated in the leaked new terms and conditions.
Customers of Safaricom receive one Bonga Point for every Ksh. 10 they spend on the network.
The decision to void unused Bonga Points aims to lower the company’s estimated Ksh. 4.5 billion liability to customers from the reward program.
