Media personality Mary Kilobi Atwoli has stepped forward to show her support for Millicent Jerotich, also known as Marakwet Daughter, in the wake of a recent social media upheaval. Marakwet Daughter ignited a firestorm on TikTok with a spirited video addressing her critics, prompting Kilobi to praise her for her fearless approach.

Kilobi, who is well-known for her social media presence, took to her platforms to commend Marakwet Daughter for standing up to online trolls. In her posts, Kilobi criticized the double standards of netizens who freely dish out criticism but cannot handle it when it’s directed back at them.

In response to the controversy, Kilobi expressed, “Kumechemka! Kumbe when fans or Kenyans in this matter are given just a little taste of their medicine kumbe hawapendi sana? I may not agree with what Mali Safi Chito said, but honestly, you guys say awful things. Mbona mnaumwa? It’s your turn to feast! Pokeeni hiyo na mtulie. That’s how some people feel when you insult them. Some people really mind what you say! Keep thriving JEROTICH. The Marakwet #Malisafichito. Wewe ni kiboko ya online bullies! #Rushenimawenimezoea!!!”

The controversy surrounding Marakwet Daughter’s video also caught the attention of Ezekiel Mutua, the CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). Mutua came to Marakwet Daughter’s defense, emphasizing that the uproar was blown out of proportion. He urged people to give her the space to enjoy her moment of fame without unnecessary criticism.

Mutua stated, “Too much ado about nothing on Mali Safi Chito. Leave the girl alone. She is loving her moments of fame. Don’t rain on her parade! She might have spoken out of turn and she may even sound arrogant and conceited. But she needs guidance and support, not condemnation and malicious attacks or criticism.”

He further defended Marakwet Daughter’s assertiveness, suggesting that her response was provoked by ongoing criticism. Mutua pointed out that some individuals might struggle to accept an assertive woman who knows how to defend herself, urging for understanding and support instead of condemnation.

The outpouring of support from figures like Kilobi and Mutua underscores the complexities of navigating online criticism and the importance of standing up for oneself in the face of adversity.
