New revelations have emerged regarding Abel Kimutai, a man some social media users have accused of being behind the recent abductions.

Kimutai faced intense online criticism after a press conference by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who suggested he could be involved in the kidnappings.

According to a report by NTV, Kimutai had worked as a detective with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) before stepping down in 2022.

Further investigation shows that he had been assigned to the fraud investigation unit within the economic and commercial crimes section.

Kimutai’s resignation was formally approved by the then Inspector General of the National Police Service in a letter dated September 23, 2022, which authorized his departure under the 24-hour rule.

“The Inspector General of the National Police Service as per the letter referenced Ref: NPS/IG/SEC/1/2/2/15/A VOL. II/100 dated 23 September 2022 has approved your resignation from the National Police Service under the 24-hour rule,” the statement indicated.
