In Summary:

  • Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has called for the dissolution of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, citing internal disagreements.
  • Kaluma emphasized that ODM should reclaim the positions it allocated to other Azimio parties, asserting that the coalition failed to secure power.

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament, Peter Kaluma, has urged the dissolution of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, arguing that the alliance is no longer cohesive.

On Wednesday, August 21, Kaluma stated that the coalition parties are not aligned on key issues and should part ways to pursue their own paths to power.

“We need to dissolve Azimio. We didn’t capture power as a pre-election coalition. We’re not agreed on critical issues. Let’s part ways and chart our own path to power,” Kaluma remarked.

“As ODM, the biggest minority party, we need to take back the positions that we donated to the other Azimio parties,” he added.

His comments come in the wake of some Azimio leaders expressing their support for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, distancing themselves from Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni recently announced that they would continue without Raila, who is pursuing opportunities with the African Union.

In response, ODM Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga, criticized the attempts to pressure Raila Odinga into endorsing any particular individual.

She emphasized that ODM will not tolerate efforts to use Raila’s AU bid as a pretext for attacking the party or the coalition’s leadership.

“As a party, ODM will not accept any continued attempts to use Raila Odinga as a human shield, any continued attempt to arm-twist him into endorsing anybody at this stage, or any continued attempt to use him as an excuse for the failure of leadership in individual constituent parties of Azimio,” Wanga declared.
