Several families were displaced when a fire broke out in the Mashimoni area of Kibra, Nairobi, on the night of Wednesday, August 14, destroying numerous homes. According to an update from the Kenya Red Cross, the fire started at around 11:35 p.m., prompting the dispatch of emergency response teams to the scene.
“Incident Alert at 11:35 PM: A fire incident has been reported at Mashimoni, Kibra in Nairobi County. Nairobi City County fire is en route. Our Community-Based Disaster Response Team (CBDRT) activated,” read a statement from the Kenya Red Cross.

Thanks to the combined efforts of community members, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and the Nairobi County Fire and Emergency team, the fire was eventually contained.
“The fire has been contained with the support of the Nairobi City County Fire and Emergency team, community members, and the Kenya Defence Forces. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fire. Our team will conduct an assessment at sunrise to identify the key needs and priorities of those impacted,” Kenya Red Cross reported.
Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded at the time of publishing.
