  2. Hassan Omar appointed as Acting Secretary General.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has dismissed former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala from his position as Secretary General.

The decision was made during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Friday.

In the wake of Malala’s removal, Hassan Omar Hassan, who serves as the party’s Vice Chairperson, has been appointed as the Acting Secretary General.

UDA stated, “The appointment of Hon Cleophas Malala as the interim Secretary General is hereby revoked. These changes are effective immediately.”

The party cited extensive and consultative discussions regarding recent events within UDA as the reason for Malala’s dismissal.

The NEC emphasized its commitment to making further adjustments in governance and administrative strategies to advance the party’s agenda and foster a participative and consultative organization.

“As the governing and policy-making organ of the Party, the NEC plays an essential role in driving the political agenda of the party,” the statement continued.

The NEC also instructed the National Elections Board to proceed with grassroots elections as previously scheduled, allowing UDA members to elect their preferred leaders from local to national levels.

The party highlighted the need for continuous realignment of policies and political guidance with the broader national landscape and collective aspirations.

Malala’s removal follows an emergency meeting held by some UDA leaders to address recent internal conflicts.

During this meeting, NEC Chairperson Cecily Mbarire condemned the attack on the self-proclaimed party Secretary General Joe Khalende, describing the incidents as unfortunate.

“We are a party with established structures for resolving conflicts, and we cannot allow the use of force to settle disputes,” Mbarire asserted.

The party resolved to hold another meeting on Friday, August 2, to further discuss the recent issues.
