In Summary:

1) Senior officials linked to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were questioned over alleged sponsorship of goons during anti-government protests.

2) The grilling took place amid claims of an impending impeachment motion against the Deputy President.

Senior government officials associated with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were questioned on Tuesday by officers from the Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The interrogation focused on their alleged involvement in sponsoring goons during recent anti-government protests.

Topnews.co.ke has learned that the questioning took place at the Deputy President’s Karen residence.

Among those who recorded statements were former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, now a political advisor in Gachagua’s office, and former Embakasi West MP Eric Theuri, who serves as a youth advisor.

Munene wa Mumbi, the Deputy President’s private secretary, also gave a statement as part of the expanded investigation into what President William Ruto described as acts of anarchy and treason.

Additionally, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya and Embakasi Central MP Mejja Donk were summoned for questioning.

They are suspected of being part of a group that allegedly facilitated the infiltration of goons during the Gen Z protests.

More MPs and a former governor are reportedly on the SCU’s radar, all required to record statements regarding the unprecedented invasion of Parliament.

No formal evidence has been presented linking these individuals to the protests.

The probe comes amidst claims of an impending impeachment motion against Deputy President Gachagua.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga warned that any such attempts would face strong resistance, labeling it an attack on the people of the Mt. Kenya region.

“Where an impeachment motion is being considered against the Deputy President, I want to make it very clear that that is an affront towards the mountain. It is an attack on us as a people, and we will not take it lying down. It has its consequences. Whoever feels that that is the way to go, we kindly tell them to bring it on,” said Kahiga.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba expressed her outrage on the X platform, stating, “Someone thinks bringing a tribal card against the DP and leaders of Mt. Kenya will diffuse the rot in the Kenya Kwanza government as highlighted by the protestors. Presenting an impeachment against DP Gachagua is a decoy to shift the attention…”
