Members of Parliament from the Kenya Kwanza Coalition are set to address concerns regarding Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a State House meeting on Tuesday morning, as revealed by Majority Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro.
The meeting, scheduled ahead of a parliamentary session, will involve the Head of State and all Kenya Kwanza legislators.
Osoro disclosed on Monday that a key agenda item is to reprimand Gachagua for his tribal approach to politics, particularly regarding his stance on the “Mountain’s Politics.”
“We also expect him to tell his deputy to stop being tribal and focus on his national agenda. If the President doesn’t, then the members will tell the DP that he is a bit too tribal in his politics,” Osoro stated.
Osoro also criticized Gachagua’s divisive position on the One Man One Shilling One Vote debate, arguing it marginalized certain communities.
Additionally, there are speculations that Gachagua has frequently absconded duties involving the President.
Despite internal tensions within the UDA camp, there are speculations that the meeting’s broader purpose is to rally support for the 2024
Finance Bill. Media reports on Monday evening indicated that UDA MPs, Azimio rebels, and independent MPs supportive of the Kenya Kwanza agenda have been invited to the meeting.
This meeting coincides with the presentation of a Finance Committee report to Parliament on Tuesday, following public participation exercises on the Finance Bill, amidst growing opposition from Kenyans nationwide.
