Tragedy struck in Kisii and Kajiado Counties over the weekend, leaving at least seven people dead and seven others hospitalized following two devastating accidents.
The first accident occurred early Saturday morning, June 15, in Kisii town along the Kisii-Migori highway. A lorry, speeding down the road, lost control and plowed into parked vehicles and pedestrians near Choma Choma Lounge club at around 4 am.
The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of three individuals, including police constable Catherine Omusula from Nyanchwa police station, the lorry driver, and an unidentified pedestrian.
Seven others, including two police officers, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, which caused significant traffic congestion on the busy highway.
Elsewhere, along the Loitoktok-Emali highway, four individuals were killed in a head-on collision on Friday night.
The accident, which took place in the Lunguswa area around 8 pm, involved a salon car and an oncoming lorry.
The salon car’s driver lost control, leading to the crash that claimed the lives of two women, a man, and a four-year-old child who were all passengers in the car.
Police responded promptly, clearing the scene and transporting the bodies to the local morgue for autopsy and further investigation.
These incidents highlight a disturbing rise in fatal road accidents, with approximately 4,000 fatalities recorded annually in Kenya, leaving many families devastated and prompting urgent calls for improved road safety measures.
