Chef Dennis Ombachi Among Influencers to Benefit from TikTok’s Ksh 131M Change Maker Program

Dennis Ombachi, a self-taught chef and former international rugby sevens player, has been chosen to participate in TikTok’s Change Makers Program.

Ombachi joins 50 other global content creators recognized for their purpose-driven initiatives.

TikTok announced that the program aims to support a select group of creators worldwide, with the Ksh131 million initiative benefiting more than 30 global and local non-profit organizations dedicated to various critical causes.

Each Changemaker will receive a Ksh3.2 million ($25,000) direct donation to bolster their respective advocacies, amplifying the impact of their work.


During the launch, TikTok highlighted Ombachi as a creator who has significantly influenced and inspired his audience both on and off the platform.

Jennifer Kaberi, Chief Executive Officer of a news agency, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Dennis Ombachi and TikTok to amplify children’s voices across Africa. This partnership ensures that African children’s perspectives on crucial issues such as climate change, education, and digital wellbeing are heard loud and clear.”

Ombachi, known for his philanthropic efforts in Nairobi, regularly distributes meals to underprivileged communities.

After an injury ended his sports career, he transitioned into a social media star with a following of 2.3 million on TikTok.

Following a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2018, Ombachi turned to cooking to maintain his mental health.

During the pandemic, he focused on creating concise cooking videos, earning the TikTok Award for Best African Content Creator in 2022.
