The investigation into the tragic death of 19-year-old Joan Nzomo in Kasarani faces complexity following the revelation from an autopsy report.
Government pathologist Peter Ndegwa confirmed that Joan succumbed to multiple injuries caused by blunt force trauma resulting from a fall.
The incident occurred when Joan fell from the 10th floor of an apartment building within Thome Estate in Nairobi’s Kasarani area.
Despite initial speculation, the autopsy clarified that there were no stab wounds on the victim, emphasizing that all injuries were consistent with blunt-force trauma from the fall.
“Injuries due to blunt-force trauma consistent with a fall from height, that is my conclusion. No stab wounds, all of them are from a blunt object consistent with a fall from height. The issue now is to establish the manner of death, whether accidental, self-harm or even murder,” stated Government pathologist Peter Ndegwa.
Detectives are now tasked with unraveling the circumstances surrounding Joan’s fatal fall.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that she was only clad in a red t-shirt at the time of the incident, raising questions about the nature of her fall – whether accidental, self-inflicted, or the result of foul play.
Upon arriving at the scene, investigators found Joan had spent the night in room J06, a short-stay accommodation, which was locked.

Subsequent contact with the owner revealed an unconscious man, Lawrence Gitonga, inside the room, bearing stab wounds on his chest and back.
Gitonga claimed Joan inflicted the injuries before she fell.
The autopsy report affirmed that Joan’s demise resulted from injuries consistent with a fall from height.
Dr. Ndegwa emphasized that it was premature to conclude the circumstances surrounding her fall, leaving the matter to the investigative authorities.
Key details emerging from the investigation shed light on the events leading up to the tragedy. Joan and Lawrence were last seen together at an entertainment joint along Mirema Drive before entering the rented apartment complex in the early hours of Saturday, March 2.
