In Summary:

  • A major accident on Thika Road involving a lorry, a truck, and a car caused a traffic standstill, trapping occupants inside the vehicles.
  • Eyewitnesses recounted a crane truck losing control and colliding with the lorry and car near the GSU flyover, prompting bystanders to initiate rescue efforts.

Motorists found themselves in a standstill along Thika Road as a collision involving three vehicles brought traffic to a halt, creating chaos on the main highway leading to the city.

The crash, which unfolded near the GSU flyover, entailed a lorry, a truck, and a car, with occupants from all three vehicles caught within the wreckage, as reported by eyewitnesses on the scene.

According to accounts from witnesses, a crane truck lost control, swerving off its designated lane on the bustling highway, before careening into the lorry and a Toyota car.

In response to the dire situation, some bystanders rushed to the aid of the trapped passengers, expressing frustration over the delayed arrival of ambulances at the accident site.

While emergency service providers, including the St John’s Ambulance, were tagged online, urging swift action, other commuters opted to navigate the congestion on foot or explore alternative routes to circumvent the traffic snarl-up.

“There is a terrible crash at Thika Road just before GSU flyover. People are trapped in… and no police or ambulance. Ambulances are needed right now,” one concerned road user emphasized, reflecting the urgency of the situation.

Photographs circulated widely depicted the aftermath of the collision, portraying the three vehicles mangled and deformed, with shattered glass strewn across the thoroughfare.

As the situation unfolded, law enforcement officers were notably absent from the accident scene at the time of this report, with no fatalities confirmed in the early morning incident. The precise number of casualties remained undetermined.

The Thika Road incident occurred mere days after a tragic accident in Nyakach, Kisumu County, claimed nine lives and left eight others critically injured. The collision along the Katito-Kendu Bay highway ensued when a truck carrying sand lost control and collided with a 14-seater matatu.

In the wake of the catastrophe, casualties were promptly transported to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital for immediate medical attention, while the deceased were transferred to a nearby morgue.
