Gachagua, Nyoro Supremacy Battle Divides Kenya Kwanza Coalition

Jan 22 (TopNews) – The intensifying clash between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro is driving a wedge within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.

In a pivotal moment on January 20, 2024, during a funeral in Kericho county, the Nyoro camp publicly endorsed Nyoro as the preferred successor to President Ruto in 2032, triggering a divisive rift within the coalition.

Belgut MP Nelson Koech urged Nyoro to embark on a nationwide tour, echoing his successful 2022 campaign efforts for President Ruto. Koech emphasized that Nyoro’s actions would be evaluated, potentially leading to a more significant role based on public support.

Konoin MP Brighton Yegon, in a coordinated effort to bolster Nyoro’s profile, highlighted his commendable development record, positioning him as a frontrunner in the Ruto succession race.

However, Nyoro tactfully sidestepped the debate, maintaining unwavering support for Ruto in the Mt Kenya region.

Responding from Kiambu county, Deputy President Gachagua cautioned against premature 2032 campaigns, urging unity and a focus on development.

He hinted at a political scheme aimed at dividing the Mt Kenya voting bloc and stressed the importance of a collective vision.

The battle for supremacy within the Kenya Kwanza coalition gains momentum, with Gachagua urging leaders to halt succession politics and concentrate on supporting President Ruto’s development agenda.

The schism threatens the coalition’s unity, shaping the evolving political landscape.

“Start visiting every constituency like my constituency Belgut and Sigowet-Soin where we are today doing development and greeting people like when you were campaigning for President Ruto in 2022 and you delivered. At the end of it all Kenyans will see what you have done and reward you probably with a bigger post,” advised Koech.

“Tukifika hapo mbele na tuone uko sawa, what is the problem…watu ni wale wale, wenye waliombea Ruto wataangalia maneno yako (They are the same people that voted for him, and they are the ones to decide again),” he stated.

“During the 2022 campaigns we said it was President Ruto ten years without a break and the same for DP Gachagua. I urge my colleagues in the Mt Kenya region that we focus on development and success of the President not succession of leadership, let us stop the politics and internal wrangles,” said Karobia.
