BBC condoles with Azimio as Al Jazeera Sifts Over byAntagonist’s remarks.
On July 26, Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka led their followers in lighting candles and laying flowers to remember Kenyans who lost their lives or were hurt during the anti-government protests.
The leaders had previously visited patients at Mama Lucy and Kenyatta Hospital who were being treated for gunshot wounds.
The story of the Wednesday vigil made international headlines, with the BBC, a British-based media company, covering it.
“A vigil has been held in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, for those who died in recent cost-of-living protests. Opposition leader Raila Odinga attended the memorial where he lay flowers and lit a candle. More vigils are to be held over the next few days,”reported BBC News Africa.
Al Jazeera, on the other hand, centered on Raila’s answer to President William Ruto’s invitation to a meeting. According to Raila, the president isn’t being serious.
Things took an unexpected turn on July 25, 2023, as President Ruto posted on his Twitter account that he was open to speaking with his political opponent Raila Odinga.
President Ruto stated that he is willing to meet with Odinga one-on-one at Odinga’s convenience.
“Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has dismissed President William Ruto’s invitation to hold talks over anti-gov’t protests, saying the president’s offer was “not serious at all,” reported Al Jazeera.
The leaders of the Azimio coalition yesterday condemned the use of excessive force by the police during the protests and made hints about the possibility of more anti-government protests in the coming weeks.
