A family in Kakamega County’s Shamsinjiri village was shocked to see a relative who had been assumed dead and buried return home yesterday.
Two days after his ‘burial’, 49-year-old Joseph Alucheri went back to his home.
The man had disappeared without a trace and efforts to trace him had turned up nothing.
The family received information that a body resembling one of their relative had been found in the Yala River.
One of Alucheri’s uncles “confirmed” his identification, which led to a night burial in keeping with Abaluhya culture and customs.
“It’s painful that we took a framed portrait of our son and placed it on a coffin with an unknown body,” Alucheri’s sister stated.
The family is requesting that the government step in and exhume the body so that they can conduct a cleansing ceremony.
Alucheri is currently at Khwisero Police Station, and according to his family, he won’t be let to return until the unidentified body has been exhumed.
