Betting: How Kenyans are conned under the guise of fixed games

In summary.

1) The majority of these conmen promise three sure fixed games in which you must stake a lot of money to win big.

2) According to reports, their fees range between Kshs. 200 and Kshs. 3500.

3) These conmen will ask you to pay a certain amount of money, which they will refund if you lose their bets, but once you pay the cash, they will change their mind and ask you to top up with more money.

Conmen have increased in number as the cost of living continues to rise, and some are now focusing on gambling games.

As Kenyans expressed concern about the growing number of conmen, we decided to conduct research into how Kenyans are duped in the name of sure bets.

We decided to conduct an investigation early this week in which we pretended to be looking for fixed bets to purchase. We approached groups named “Royal prestige Odds-+254 114263832” and “+254 759 498656.”

To begin the story, we approached a guy named “Charles Bosire,” who claimed to be offering three must-win games with 100+ odds. We were required to book the bet at Kes 200 and pay the remaining Kes.1800 if we won.

We proceeded to pay for the service, but the individual stated that the ticket would be sent at 19:52hrs.

To alert Kenyans to the rise of conmenship, the individual changed his mind around 20:00 hours and asked us to top up 300 in order for our ticket to be completed.

We did not send the top-up money, and the guy did not refund our money or send us the guaranteed games. We did not pursue the individual any further.

In another similar incident, we decided to look into it further and contacted another group via the WhatsApp platform. We were told that we would have to pay Kes 2500 for two games and Kes 3500 for three games in order to be offered 100% sure bets.

We then bargained with a lady named “Jescar” and asked her to sell us one game for Kes. 500, which she agreed to do and asked us to pay through 011365387.

The lady changed her mind after we paid for the service and began asking us to top up Kes 1500 in order to receive their sure bets. We did not pay the top-up, and the lady did not refund us or send us the agreed-upon game. We did not pursue the lady any further.

As we approach the general election, we would like to remind Kenyans not to be taken in by conmen who offer sure wins odds for a certain amount of money.

We also request that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conduct an investigation and prosecute the responsible individuals.
