Relief for Kenyans as government suspends levies on maize in an effort to lower unga prices.

Basic commodities including bread, cooking oil, LPG gas, milk, and maize flour, also known as unga, which is the most valuable item in every home, have all seen significant price increases as a result of the Ukraine Crisis.

According to recent press reports, Peter Munya, the cabinet secretary for agriculture, has suspended all taxes on the importation of products used to make animal feed and maize.

The step is implemented against the backdrop of unsettling unga prices, which are plainly having a negative impact on the national economy.

” I have suspended all levies on imports for Maize and Animal feed products effective 1st July, 2022.”

” This initiative is aimed at lowering the cost of maize flour and animal feed in the country for the next 90 days before the next harvest.” CS Munya tweeted.

The new measures will aid in streamlining the clearance of trucks at border crossings where significant backups have been seen.

Kenyans already pay more than 200 shillings for 2 kg of maize flour, making it difficult for many Kenyans to pay their bills.

Kenyans should now wait until July 2022 to discover how this move will affect the cost of maize flour.
