Diclofenac is being used to treat arthritis-related pain, swelling, and joint stiffness.

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has urged Kenyans against using Diclofenac as a pain reliever for an extended period of time without a prescription.

The PPB board linked the common analgesic to heart attacks and strokes.

Even while the benefits of diclofenac outweigh the hazards, there is a slight chance of heart attack or stroke in people who take it consistently, according to Fred Siyoi, CEO -PPB

Diclofenac is used to treat arthritis-related pain, swelling, and joint stiffness.

A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug is what this medication is called (NSAID).

“”Use of diclofenac is no longer suggested for patients who have had a heart attack or brain blockage, or who have undergone a surgery to clear or bypass such blockages, or who have circulation disorders that restrict blood flow to their limbs,” Siyoi stated.

Smokers, as well as individuals with high blood cholesterol or diabetes, should seek a doctor’s prescription before using diclofenac.

He further stated that diclofenac should only be prescribed and utilized by a properly trained healthcare provider.
